Import photos from a camera or phone using Photos on Mac

You lot tin connect a photographic camera, iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device to your Mac and import your photos into the Photos app.

You can also import photos from a photographic camera's memory bill of fare. See Import photos from storage devices and DVDs using Photos.

Import photos from a photographic camera, iPhone, or iPad

1. Connect a camera, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.

2. Make sure the camera or device is turned on and the camera is set to the right style for importing photos.

   For information on which mode to choose, see the instructions provided with your camera. If your photographic camera has a "sleep" fashion, brand sure it'due south disabled or gear up to a fourth dimension bridge long plenty to allow your images to download.

3. Open up Photos (if it isn't already open), and so click the device under Devices in the sidebar.

   Annotation: Devices appears in the sidebar only when a camera or storage device is connected.

   

   Photos displays all the photos and videos on the device.

   Tip: If y'all desire Photos to open whenever you connect this device, select the Open Photos checkbox.

4. If you desire to delete photos from the camera afterwards importing them, select the "Delete items" checkbox.

   This selection does not appear for all cameras.

5. To set where to import the photos, do one of the following:

   • Import into an existing album: Click the "Import to" popular-up menu, then cull the album you want from the listing.

   • Import into a new anthology: Click the "Import to" pop-up menu, cull New Album, enter an album name, then click OK.

   • Import into the Photos library without specifying an album: Click the "Import to" pop-up menu, then cull Library.

6. Exercise i of the post-obit:

   • Import all new photos: Click Import All New Items.

   • Import a choice of photos: Click the photos you want to import, then click Import Selected.

7. If a message asks whether you want to delete or continue the photos on your camera afterward they're imported, click Delete Items to remove the photos, or click Proceed Items to go along them on the camera.

   Photos imports your photos. To abolish importing, click Stop Import.

8. When all photos accept been imported, disconnect the camera or device from your computer.

If y'all didn't import the photos into an anthology, they appear in the Imports album in the sidebar. They too appear among the other days and months in your Photos library; to browse them, click Library in the sidebar. To organize imported photos into albums, select photos in the Imports album and drag them into albums in the sidebar.

If y'all accept photos taken with a pic camera, you can import them into Photos by converting them to digital files (using the Image Capture app and a home scanner). With Continuity Camera, yous can take a picture or browse a class or certificate using your nearby iPhone or iPad and have the photo or browse appear instantly on your Mac. See Insert photos and scans with Continuity Photographic camera. You can also use the Paradigm Capture app to set up Photos to open automatically whenever you connect your camera. See Scan images in Prototype Capture and Transfer images in Image Capture.

Tip: You can change the date and time of scanned images in Photos; select the paradigm and choose Image > Accommodate Date and Fourth dimension.

Import from a third-party mobile phone or device

If you use a third-political party phone or other mobile device, yous may be able to connect the device to your reckoner using a USB cable, then re-create photos from the telephone into Photos only as y'all would from an external storage device.

Note: Some third-party phones may connect to a computer using a Bluetooth (wireless) connexion. Use the Bluetooth File Exchange app to import photos via Bluetooth.

1. Connect the phone to your calculator.

2. Drag the photos onto your reckoner'south internal deejay.

3. Do one of the post-obit:

   • Drag files or folders from the Finder to the Photos window.

   • Elevate files or folders from the Finder to the Photos icon in the Dock.

   • In Photos, choose File > Import. Select the photos or folder that yous want to import, and then click Review for Import. If you lot selected multiple photos or videos, select the photos or video that you want to import, then click Import [number] Selected or Import All.

Delight don't include any personal information in your comment.
